Learn what unique specimens have been found throughout Nova Scotia. Check out how fossils and sink holes form, and the difference between a mastodon and a mammoth. Nature Zone 2022 will run weekday mornings from June 6 to 17. Schools must prebook their visit.
Gus celebrates 100 years
The Museum of Natural History’s famous Gopher Tortoise, Gus, will be turning 100 this year. Gus was born in Florida and raised at the Ross Allen Reptile Institute in Silver Springs. He was purchased by the director of the Nova Scotia Provincial Museum for $5 in 1942. The museum will pay tribute to Gus’s milestone birthday throughout the year with a special celebratory event in August.
